Dear Members,

The Wivenhoe Ocean Racing Club has now past its first half year and has, I think, arranged some splendid functions in that short existence.  I hope that you have all had an opportunity to enjoy some of these events.  The Club is now some 140 members strong and it is impossible to fit all members into our current premises thus the regrettable necessity of limiting numbers by ticket on a "first come, first serve" basis.  We, on the committee, are not yet warm to the idea of closing the membership list, the club having generated its own momentum through your word of mouth. We are, however, very alive to that possibility arising if only to preserve the equanimity of our hard-pressed secretary.

The Wivenhoe Ocean Racing Club is here to provide you all with some fairly gentle fun while at the same time preserving an important local institution - The Royal British Legion, Wivenhoe.  At a recent curry lunch a speech was wrung from me which moved the members present to sign up for membership of RBL.  It is only by boosting the membership of RBL Wivenhoe that we are assured of being able to continue in our present venue.  But that is very selfish reasoning.  The present wars in which our young men and women are engaged may be the subject of much heated, but comfortable, debate, that debate is denied the Service personnel fighting them.  In doing their duty all too often our Servicemen and Servicewomen are called upon to make the final sacrifice but so many more return maimed or injured, in body and mind.  We too have our duty and so on behalf of those young men and women who cannot question why, I implore all members of WORC who have not already done so to join the RBL.

The RBL is open to all British subjects and costs £14.50 per year so please, fellow WORCers, WORC on!
